Gateway Housing has been supporting communities to thrive since 1926. We are an ambitious London based housing association with over 3,000 homes in the heart of London's East End. We provide social rented homes, shared ownership, and sheltered housing. We develop new homes too and are part way through an exciting programme to deliver another 250 homes by 2025. We are looking for an experienced Plumber to undertake plumbing repairs, installations and other related works as required.

You will be responsible for providing a customer focused, efficient and effective in-house maintenance service for Gateway Residents Services.

Your duties and key skills will include but not be limited to:

  • Working independently or as part of a team to carry out plumbing repair works to occupied and vacant properties across the day to day and planned work streams either as a stand-alone repair or in conjunction with other trades.
  • To maintain a diary of non-emergency repairs visits both to occupied and vacant properties.
  • Where the work involves materials and/or equipment which do not appear in their van stock, to attend the authorised merchant and/or hire centre in advance to obtain materials in accordance with purchasing procedures.
  • To complete the repair works ensuring that a quality job is done and, wherever possible, completing the job at the first visit.
  • Following completion of the repair, to remove all rubbish and where this is not possible to leave in a safe place and plan for removal.
  • If issued with a company van, ensuring that it is driven in accordance with Gateway's safe driving policy. Also to ensure that it is kept clean and in good tidy condition and carrying out weekly maintenance tasks such as checking oil and water levels and tyre condition and pressures.
  • To use any mobile communications equipment provided in accordance with guidance and procedures.

Key skills:

  • Experience of carrying out a wide range of plumbing work to a good, professional and workmanlike standard
  • Experience of working on properties owned by social landlords.
  • Ability to plan and organise own workload in the most effective, efficient and economical way in accordance with laid down priorities.
  • Good awareness of health and safety at work, including risk assessment, the need to follow safe working procedures and willing and able to wear and/or use appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Be physically fit, capable of lifting 25 kg and carrying and operating a range of hand and power tools.
