Our client is seeking a Backend Developer to bolster their team of both front and backend developers, designers, and account managers.

They are in search of someone with at least 2 years of commercial experience in backend programming and databases. The role will encompass addressing support requests, participating in projects, and aiding in advancing internal procedures and tools, all while getting acquainted with their development stack.

Their primary CMS is TYPO3, known for its steep learning curve but high flexibility once mastered. They are seeking an individual who thrives on challenges and can excel in the role with support from their CTO and development team.

Employees undergo training using real-world code on real tasks, supplemented by popular training courses, books, and websites. Ideally, the candidate will deploy code to production within the first week and handle support tickets independently within the first month. Problem-solving usually occurs collaboratively, and all code is fully accessible in their hosted Git environment, facilitating learning from peers' work.

The team works from the office twice a week, so the ability to commute to Brighton is essential.

The interview process typically involves two or three interviews with their CTO, developers, and other staff members. They prioritize fostering a two-way conversation rather than conducting technical interviews.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing on live projects and existing client websites
  • Collaborating with and supporting the backend development team
  • Executing upgrades and conversions following established procedures
  • Documenting collaboratively with the team
  • Assisting designers and account managers in debugging or explaining issues in layman's terms

Required skills:

  • Proficiency in PHP and MySQL (or equivalent backend experience)
  • Comfortable with Composer
  • Strong communication skills
  • Familiarity with version control
  • Preferably, experience with the command line (sys-admin experience is a plus but not mandatory)
  • Eagerness to learn and grow as a developer and team member

About our client:

They boast a highly creative and professional team with stringent standards and a renowned reputation for delivering award-winning work for a diverse international client base.

Their portfolio comprises a mix of world-class commercial clients and a broad spectrum of Not-for-Profit and NGO organizations.

They offer:

  • A 9-day working fortnight (a day off every other week)
  • A 2-week Christmas office shutdown in addition to regular holiday entitlement
  • Health cash plan covering and reimbursing expenses for dental, optical, and other health professionals
  • Life assurance and income protection
  • A day off on your birthday
  • Generous profit-sharing
  • Flexible working hours with weekly remote working
