Do you want to be a part of an innovative and supportive team, where there are great opportunities for career progression and development?

An Opportunity has arisen within the Gas Control Centre for a Network Control Manager reporting to the Gas Control Manager (Operations), within the Network Directorate based at Horley. This senior position will attract a personal contract and salary commensurate with skills and experience, including shift allowance. The role will also follow a 'Forward Continental Shift Rota pattern'.

As a manager you will be a candidate of high calibre, managing one of six shift teams to ensure the safe and efficient running of the Gas Control Centre which operates the 3 gas networks owned by SGN and the Mutual Energy Transmission System on a 365 days per year, 24 hours per day basis within pre-defined safety and technical parameters.

What will you be doing day to day?

  • Ensuring that all data passed to the Gas National Control Centre is correct and valid and any incorrect data is validated before being sent.
  • Developing operating strategies and forecasting demand.
  • Management of resources, ensuring that all Networks are operated by competent NCE’s whilst providing the most cost effective provision of cover, when required by sickness and holidays.
  • Providing coaching and training to the Network Control Engineers (NCE) together with associated assessments ensuring NCE’s are competent in the tasks they are assigned to do.
  • Management of Network Gas Supply Emergencies. Communicating with emergency services and the SGN management team.
  • Responsibility for the commercial operation of the Mutual Energy Transmission System.

What you’ll need

You will need to have an analytical approach with a good understanding and knowledge of the physical operation of the Gas Networks (ideally both Scotland and Southern). A total commitment to safety and standards of service are key requirements. An understanding of IT systems and applications, specifically SCADA and ideally experience of System Operation activities would be advantageous.

You will ideally have had experience at management / supervisory level, and will have good influencing and communication skills. You will need to demonstrate that you have the necessary attributes to help improve performance and allow the Gas Control Centre to increase efficiency in what will become an increasingly commercial environment.

The role requires the ability to demonstrate flexibility as the work within Gas Control is varied. You must be able to communicate effectively and politely both verbally and in writing with colleagues, managers and customers both within SGN and other external parties. You should have an eye for details, a thorough approach and a 'can-do’ attitude with the self-motivation to work on your own to achieve required outcomes.

A full valid driving licence is required as you may be required to travel to our BCM site under your own means at short notice and in accordance with the BCM plan.

If you don’t have all the qualifications, we would still love to hear from you… we provide our own specialised learning and development programs, providing access to learning tools to help you acquire the skills needed to excel in our environment.
