Manual Machinist / Centre Lathe Turner / Miller who can work with minimum supervision is required for a family run precision engineering company based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
SALARY: £15.00 per Hour
LOCATION: Wakefield, West Yorkshire
JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent
WORKING HOURS: approximately 31 Hours over a 4 Day Week (Monday to Thursday, 8am - 4:30pm)
PLEASE NOTE: This IS NOT a CNC based role. This requires candidates to have Manual Machining experience with extensive knowledge of manual machining techniques, reading technical drawings and hand-eye coordination for precise work. You’ll also need to be capable of performing a wide range of operations with manual adjustment of tooling and workpiece alignments.

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Manual Machinist / Centre Lathe Turner / Miller who had a wealth of previous experience operating lathes manually.
The company work for a variety of industries including food & drink, printing & textiles producing work in stainless steel, mild steels & engineering plastics.
Working as a Manual Machinist / Centre Lathe Turner / Miller you will be responsible for operating manual machining equipment to produce precision components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
As the Manual Machinist / Centre Lathe Turner / Miller you will work closely with a small Engineering Team undertaking a varied workload producing one offs and small quantity items working from samples and technical drawings to fine tolerances.
As a successful applicant you will be apprentice trained with previous experience in setting and operating MANUAL machines.

DUTIES
Your duties as the Manual Machinist / Centre Lathe Turner / Miller include:
- Set up and operate manual machines including lathes, milling machines, and grinders
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
- Perform machining operations such as turning, milling, drilling, and threading to produce components with tight tolerances
- Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials for each job
- Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as necessary to maintain quality and efficiency
- Inspect finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications and quality standards
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, including routine maintenance of machines and equipment
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience as a Manual Machinist, Centre Lathe Turner, or Miller in a manufacturing / engineer environment
- Strong knowledge of machining techniques, tooling, and materials
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints
- Skilled in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
