We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Clay Services team in the position of Laboratory Technician.

By being part of a major manufacturer of core materials, including bricks for the housing market, you will contribute to the built environment, where the primary role is to carry out routine testing of products and raw materials. These are both of in-coming samples from other production facilities as well as Quality Control of the process materials and products manufactured on site.

You will also support the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.

This position reports to the Clay Services Manager and will support the Laboratory Technologist.

Your duties would include but not limited to the following;

Laboratory Support

  • Undertake a range of test work to assess product compliance against relevant standards and specifications.
  • Carry out raw material testing, collect data and update data bases.
  • Calculation of results within appropriate timescales.
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures and Safe Systems of Work are followed and maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Must have the ability to work as part of a small team, but also under their own initiative, with good numerical skills, be computer literate and have a methodical approach to data collection.
  • Ability to work unsupervised is an important element of the job and a clear understanding of the tests carried out and the equipment used is necessary.
  • Some manual handling of products and raw materials is required.

About You;

  • Education to GCSE level as a minimum in science or technology subjects.
  • A background in a heavy clay industry or construction materials with an understanding of test methodology would be advantageous but not essential as full training will be given.
  • Systems and IT skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Teams etc.)
  • Hold a full valid UK driving licence.
  • Ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
