Job title: Laboratory & Facilities Assistant - Synergy

Location: Oxford, UK

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £25,000 per annum

SRG are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join a Global Pharmaceutical company based in Oxford.

This role provides support mainly within the Old Road Campus Research Innovation Building, in Oxford nearby however there is the possibility that support may be required at discrete times at the offices for digital science in London.

This role will provide day-to-day, front-line broad support to the laboratories and offices, the post holder will be expected to respond to enquiries and be responsible for resolving practical and technical issues.

This role would not be suitable for a science graduate.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Autoclaving waste collection, treatment, and disposal
  • General waste and recycling waste management
  • Management of glass washing
  • Specialist waste management - WEEE/hazardous waste
  • General lab cleaning activities, for example water bath changes and incubator cleaning
  • Weekly lab clean working alongside other team members
  • Maintenance of general shared office areas
  • Assist with laundering collection and return.
  • Assist with weekly liquid nitrogen fill.
  • Assist with management of Gas Bay, gas deliveries and ordering and cylinder changes.
  • General equipment maintenance, for example -80 freezers, RO water systems and incubators
  • Ordering of consumables and stock management for lab and office
  • Assist and support with site events, including room set up and food ordering.
  • Work within operations team to ensure general office maintenance.

Candidate Requirements:

  • at least A-level standard or equivalent, preferably in a science subject, demonstrate experience in a laboratory environment and of practical problem-solving and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of current Health and Safety requirements, hazardous materials within a laboratory environment are desirable along with excellent communications skills and a pro-active attitude.
  • Experience in a similar role and a working knowledge of scientific research environments is desirable.
  • IT literate with the use of databases, spreadsheets, and Microsoft office.
  • Experience of a procurement system is desirable.
  • Experience managing lab suppliers and equip maintenance.
