Head of Design Engineering

As Head of Design Engineering, you'll join a close-knit and innovative team. My client requires full proficiency in AutoCAD/Inventor, showcasing expertise from concept to technical implementation. The ideal candidate will have experience with hydraulically or mechanically powered structures, contributing to cutting-edge projects in a dynamic and creative environment while driving the design function forward. The ideal candidate will have experience guiding junior members of staff while providing technical expertise to the senior leadership team.

Head of Design Engineering Requirements

  • Demonstrate excellent proficiency in AutoCAD, producing detailed and accurate 2D and 3D drawings
  • Strong and confident communicator, able to lead projects and liaise directly with architects, main contractors, and suppliers
  • Clearly demonstrate creative and problem-solving design skills
  • Excellent understanding of bolted steel structures and their principal design
  • Solid understanding of concrete structures, steelwork, and reinforcement
  • Willingness to travel for on-site work and attend/conduct meetings (within the UK and possibly outside the UK)
  • Proficiency in using surveying tools for essential data gathering
  • Strong understanding of stainless-steel fabricating and machining practices, considering associated limitations
  • Ability to work to deadlines and high-quality standards
  • Multitasking ability, with the flexibility to temporarily side-step onto different tasks or projects
  • Incorporate and promote health and safety practices in all design aspects
  • Keen awareness of project costs, balancing design creativity with economic considerations
  • Create comprehensive and precise lists of components, contributing to manufacturing and assembly efficiency

Head of Design Engineering Desirables

  • Adept hand sketching skills for effective conceptual idea conveyance
  • High proficiency in 3D Studio Max, creating realistic renders that enhance presentations and sales
  • Comprehensive understanding of laser cutting and folding processes for sheet metal fabrication
  • Foundational understanding of general building practices, providing insights into construction methodologies, industry standards, and regulations
  • Perceptive understanding of sensing and control systems, strategically integrating elements for enhanced functionality and user experience
  • Remarkable ability to visualize optimal site setups, considering both functional and aesthetic dimensions
