My client is a leading Rail Contractor with a proud history of delivering complex rail infrastructure projects across the UK. With a turnover of £600m, they specialise in enhancing the rail network to meet the needs of the future. Their portfolio includes successful delivery of new train stations, platform extensions, and station rebuilds, contributing significantly to the transformation of the national rail experience.

The Opportunity:

As they embark on a series of ambitious projects in Birmingham, including the construction of new train stations and extensive platform extensions, they are seeking an experienced General Foreman to join team. This role offers the chance to be a part of landmark projects that will shape the future of rail travel in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations on-site, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Lead, motivate, and manage site teams and subcontractors, promoting a positive and productive work environment.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient execution of project plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all rail safety regulations, including Personal Track Safety (PTS) protocols.
  • Oversee the delivery of platform extensions and new station builds, from initial groundwork to final commissioning.
  • Manage and monitor site safety, conducting regular inspections and risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Liaise with suppliers and manage materials on-site, ensuring timely availability and optimal use of resources.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a General Foreman or similar leadership role in rail construction projects, with specific experience in platform extensions and new station builds.
  • Valid PTS certification and a strong understanding of rail safety and compliance standards.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate teams effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to overcoming challenges.
  • Relevant qualifications in construction management or civil engineering are highly desirable.
