General Counsel, London

A leading commodities brokerage with international offices is seeking to hire a new General Counsel.

The role will report directly into the CEO and manage another member of the legal team. It will have overall responsibility on all legal issues and advise on a very broad range of topics. Whilst providing legal assistance on a variety of commercial agreements and corporate matters, the role with work closely with the C-Suite on many different advisory issues. Furthermore the role will take responsibility of litigation and employment matters as well as the occasional real estate issue and be responsible for regulatory changes and horizon scanning. It is a true generalist position.

Candidate Requirements:

  • You will be a qualified solicitor with experience of working within financial services (regulated)
  • Your technical ability to advise on a diverse range of matters will be advantageous, using legal common sense, but your real strength will be your ability to advise the senior management and navigate sensitive issues whilst providing robust legal advice.
  • You should have excellent communication skills and be able to work with a variety of stakeholders, both senior and junior and advise on a range of trading activities.
  • Specialist advice is given to external counsel, but you should be able to provide sensible pragmatic counsel in the first instance
