Our client, a leading health and beauty retailer with over 50 years of experience and 130 stores nationwide, is seeking an ambitious Financial Controller. This role offers the opportunity to shape the finance function, drive efficient processes and controls, and build strong relationships with stakeholders across the business. Reporting directly to a high-calibre Finance Director, you will have the chance to influence key business decisions at board level and contribute to the company's continued growth.

What you'll do:

As a Financial Controller, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our client's finance function. You will be responsible for managing a small team, producing comprehensive monthly management packs, presenting financial insights to board members, and driving process improvements. Your role will also involve handling FP&A responsibilities, ensuring smooth audits, managing weekly cashflow forecasts, handling VAT returns, recruiting and training new team members, and building strong relationships with stakeholders. This role requires not only excellent technical skills but also strong interpersonal skills.

  • Direct management and development of the finance team (total team size of 3)
  • Production of the monthly management pack, including P&L, Balance sheet, Cashflow statement and KPI's
  • Presentation of the MI pack to CEO and other board members
  • Handling FP&A responsibilities for the business, providing valuable insight to aid continued growth
  • Driving process improvements and embedding a strong controls culture
  • Ensuring a smooth year-end audit in collaboration with the Finance Director
  • Full responsibility of the weekly cashflow forecast with commentary
  • Handling VAT returns and similar technical accounting duties
  • Recruiting and training new starters within the finance team in line with business growth
  • Building close working relationships with stakeholders across the business, within and outside of finance

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for this Financial Controller position is fully ACA/ACCA/CIMA. You should possess excellent analytical skills coupled with commercial acumen. Advanced Excel and finance modelling skills are essential, as is the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships. You should be able to influence key business decisions at board level and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. An ambition to learn and develop within a fast-paced and growing business is crucial, and previous team management experience is desirable.
