The Opportunity:

We are seeking a qualified Accountant to join our team as the Financial Controller role, reporting to the Finance and HR Director. In this role, you will be pivotal in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Finance department, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting, compliance with financial regulations, and adherence to best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead & Manage: Oversee a finance team of 5 (3 direct reports)
  • Financial Reporting: Ensure accurate & timely financial reports, targeting a working day 3 delivery of monthly management accounts
  • Budgeting: Lead monthly budgeting & collaborate with departments
  • Payroll: Review and sign off the Bath Rugby monthly payrolls
  • Cashflow: Assist the FD and ultimately take ownership for the Cashflow management of Bath Rugby including forecasting and liason with key stakeholders
  • Tax Compliance: Manage HMRC, VAT & other tax regulations
  • Financial Controls: Implement & enforce robust internal controls
  • Year-End Audit: Lead on the annual financial audit with support from the FD
  • Payments & Expenses: Review & approve supplier payments & expenses
  • Strategic Analysis: Partner with FD and key budget holders on business analysis and decision-making
  • Salary Cap: Lead on the annual Salary Cap Audit with support from the FD
  • Salary Cap and Player Contracts: Work closely with the Head of Recruitment to manage preparation of player contracts utilising the bespoke software and an excel model to ensure accuracy of the salary cap and meet reporting needs
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate & improve financial systems
  • Special Projects: Undertake additional Adhoc projects as required

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • A qualified accountant (ACA/ ACCA) with 5+ years of industry experience or a practice-trained accountant, with 2+ years of industry experience, who can demonstrate progression in the roles you have held
  • Impeccable attention to detail and a passion for accuracy
  • Strong Technical accounting and IT skills including, Excel, PowerPoint, and basic financial modelling. (Sage preferred but not essential)
  • A strong communicator who operates with integrity
  • A proactive and organised approach to managing workload, able to prioritise and plan ahead to optimise the efficiency of the team
  • A solution focussed individual who thrives in a busy environment

Location:

This role is primarily based at Bath Rugby's Head Office in Farleigh Hungerford (BA2 7RW) on the outskirts of Bath, with occasional work at The Rec in Bath City Centre. The role holder should live in a commutable distance to Bath and have their own transportation due to location and limited public transport.
