We are working with a local authority who are looking for an Educational Psychologist work across the county doing remote, statutory Education, Health and Care assessments, supporting children, school and families within the area.  

This will require you to; be using a range of assessment materials that can be delivered virtually, carry out remote observations, meet with parents/carers, children and young people, school and setting staff, and other involved professionals through the use of video conferencing platforms such as Teams or Zoom.

Location: Southwest based Authority x2

Set-up: Fully remote

Rate: £455 - £600 per day via Umbrella (Inside IR35)

Duration: 3 months initial contract, with likely extension

Hours: Full-time position

The work will include:

  • Provide consultation and specialist advice to parents/carers, staff in schools and settings and other professionals to support the successful inclusion of children with Special Educational Needs, Disabilities (SEND) and those from other vulnerable groups
  • Work jointly with children and young people, parents/carers, staff in schools and settings and other professionals to clarify the outcomes they want to achieve and to set up and monitor interventions to achieve these outcomes
  • Provide specialist assessments and/or observations, if required, in order to inform evidence-based interventions
  • Ensure that the views/preferences of children and young people are listened to as part of any assessment or intervention plan (regardless of the age or needs of the young person).
  •  Support schools and settings in following the SEND Code of Practice (2014) relating to Special Educational Needs and carry out statutory work as required. This will include providing Psychological Advice to the Local Authority as part of an Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment
  • Work in collaboration with voluntary agencies which support vulnerable groups of children, young people and their families in order to achieve better outcomes for these groups.
  •  Contribute to the training of Trainee Educational Psychologist on placement with the Educational Psychology Service
  • Promote and provide high quality traded work to a range of schools, education settings and partners. This work includes carrying out interventions, delivering training and completing work requested by schools or other organisations through Service Level Agreements, the Flexible Option or a commissioning arrangement
  • The post holder must at all times carry out his/her responsibilities with regard to this Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy and within the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act. The Post holder will work within the policies and procedures of the Council and the Directorate and in line with relevant professional standards (including HCPC)

Experience and Qualifications

  • Honours Degree in Psychology (or equivalent)
  • Qualified Teacher status and/or experience working with children that has been recognised by a post graduate Educational Psychology training course
  • A recognised post graduate qualification in Educational Psychology
  • Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Care Professional Council
