Design Manager – Devon
An incredible opportunity has arisen for a Design Manager to join a well established regional building contractor on a permanent basis! This contractor offers a complete package of construction-related services including design and build through to refurbishment and associated fit-out works with clients including Government, Local Authorities, Healthcare, Universities and Housing Providers.

As the Design Manager, you would be liaising with the site teams, senior management, consultants and architects to effectively manage the design process. You should have a solid work history reflecting your achievements in a similar role incorporating experience of pre construction on a range of general contracting schemes and a sound understanding of detailed design. You will have the ability to assimilate complex technical issues and understand the design, procurement and construction process as well as a good eye for detail and the confidence to challenge drawn information to improve detailing and buildability.

Responsibilities:
  • Review the Project Information including the employer’s requirements, contractor’s proposals and design team appointments to brief the design team on their contractual obligations and their corresponding duties
  • Agree, in conjunction with the site team, the specialist subcontractor procurement strategy
  • Manage the submission and timely approval of all reviewable design data to ensure the design programme is achieved
  • Assist in the commercial and technical review of specialist subcontract tender returns, establish interfaces and review alternative design
  • Prepare technical submissions for alternative designs, system, component, product and or material proposals for client approval
  • Obtain design reports from primary and secondary designers to accompany the monthly CVRs
  • Raise RFI’s where required
  • Progress the approval of all specified design certificates including, CDM, BREEAM, Secure by Design
  • Manage the client design approval process
Requirements:
  • HNC / Degree Construction related
  • JCT/NEC/Design & Build
  • Relevant driving licence
