Delegated Authority Schemes Underwriter

We are seeking a Delegated Authority Manager with a strong background in insurance and a passion for maximising the potential of delegated authority schemes. The ideal candidate will be proactive, skilled in relationship management, and adept at bringing together internal and external stakeholders to foster successful partnerships.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with a panel of brokers to generate profitable business.
  • Collaborate with partner brokers, Underwriting, and Operations to review scheme performance and identify growth opportunities.
  • Address poorly performing accounts by investigating high loss ratios and implementing improvement strategies.
  • Participate in planning and setting departmental tasks, including budget and KPIs, to align with strategic development plans.
  • Ensure accurate servicing of accounts, assist with premium collection, and contribute to credit control efforts.
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members, acting as a technical underwriting referral point.
  • Analyse and report on account performance for internal and external meetings.
  • Prepare and present renewal proposals to the Underwriting Committee.
  • Conduct annual coverholder audits, write reports, and ensure recommendations are implemented.
  • Review and update policy wordings, contracts, and agreements as needed.
  • Provide feedback on market conditions and competitor activities to enhance products, pricing, and services.
  • Assist with updating underwriting guides, rating structures, and business terms.
  • Work with Underwriting and Compliance to implement company and regulatory requirements for coverholders.
  • Draft and implement run-off plans for terminated schemes.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned by the company.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in delegated authority account management within an insurance carrier or MGA.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a strong track record in relationship management.
  • Proficient in negotiation, with the ability to empathise and influence.
  • Independent worker capable of meeting goals as part of a team.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the UK insurance market, regulatory practices, and legislation.
  • Experience in underwriting commercial and/or personal insurance risks.
  • Competent in data analysis and report writing.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree-level education; CII qualification or equivalent is preferable.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
