Meridian Business Support are delighted to be working with one of the UK's leading providers of behavioural care and specialist support services to recruit for a Consultant Psychiatrist.

The hospital is rated 'Good' by the CQC and offers opportunities for nurses to work in a number of service line settings – Adult Acute & Adult Eating Disorders.

The Hospital has well established multidisciplinary teams in all wards including nursing, therapy, occupational therapy and psychology input. The non-consultant doctors in the hospital include three full-time specialty doctors and one full-time resident Medical Officer, who is based on-site.

Outline of the Role:

This is one WTE substantive post, part time/job share applications will also be considered. The role of Consultant Psychiatrist provides inpatient care and treatment for 18 NHS patients. 

As part of the role, the post holder will join the out of hours Consultant Psychiatrist on call rota which is one in six weeks. This is low intensity on call, providing Consultant support to the Resident Medical Officer (RMO). The salary for the post includes on call commitments. 

The post holder will have professional and operational accountability to the Medical Director, who is based on-site as the Consultant Psychiatrist for Starling acute ward.

Key responsibilities of the role are as follows:
  • Holding RC responsibility for patients detained under the MHA and responsibility for voluntary patients. Providing clinical leadership to the MDT in assessment, treatment and discharge planning for patients following the acute care pathway
  • Weekly MDT Reviews
  • CPAs, Discharge planning, community and family liaisons
  • Working in collaboration with MDT to monitor day to day progress and evaluation of treatment plans as needed
  • Ensure MDT completion of agreed treatment plans
  • Cross cover arrangements for annual leave/sickness absence
  • Preparation of tribunal/Hospital Managers reports and attending the hearing
  • The post holder will have responsibility for providing weekly clinical supervision to the Specialty Doctor.
Support for the Post holder:
  • The post holder would receive monthly 1:1 management supervision with the Medical Director
  • The Hospital has an active monthly clinical forum which is well attended. The post holder would be a member of the forum and would participate in case based discussions. 
  • Weekly peer group sessions to support with revalidation and appraisal
  • The post holder will join hospital DBT consult to support development
  • Continuing professional development and access to study leave with associated expenses is available via centrally allocated budget and approval system after the probation period.
  • There is weekly Peer Group Supervision meeting attended by specialty doctors and consultants in the hospital.
  • The post holder can join individual MPS medical indemnity and the associated expenses for Medical Indemnity will be paid by the company 
  • The annual leave entitlement is 30 days with additional bank holidays.
Essential Criteria
  • Current GMC registration with license to practice
  • On GMC’s specialist register for General Ault Psychiatry
  • AC approval
Desirable Criteria
  • Previous experience of working in an acute inpatient service
  • Experience of providing supervision
  • Training as medical appraiser
  • Experience of Quality Improvement Projects
All roles will be subject to a successful disclosure at an appropriate level from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), Access NI or Disclosure Scotland. Cost of a DBS check will be covered by the employer.
