Job Title: Commercial Underwriter

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

The Opportunity

An innovative, dynamic and growing MGA are seeking a Commercial Underwriter with a focus on brokers, emphasising attention to detail and relationship-building skills, particularly in the Midlands and North of England. This role involves underwriting both new and existing business across various products, including commercial combined, property owners, retail packages, primary liability, contract works, and contractors' plant and equipment.

The position offers flexibility and autonomy, allowing individuals to manage their time effectively while working remotely. Responsibilities include underwriting new inquiries, renewals, and conducting regular visits to brokers. Key duties encompass achieving monthly commission and fee targets, ensuring high renewal retention rates, and maintaining strong broker relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

• Underwrite and process new business to meet monthly commission and fee targets
• Maintain a renewal retention rate of at least 90%
• Handle midterm adjustments within 30 days of renewal or inception
• Foster broker development through regular visits and on-site underwriting
• Cultivate and sustain relationships with broker panels
• Provide monthly reporting in accordance with regulatory standards, including FCA Conduct Rules

What’s needed for me to be considered?

• Essential commercial underwriting experience, particularly in Commercial Combined, Property, and Liability
• Previous engagement with commercial brokers and insurers
• Familiarity with SME organizations and working within small teams
• Experience in underwriting with delegated authority or underwriting licenses.
• Demonstrated success in developing relationships with key brokers and meeting financial targets
• Strong teamwork and initiative, coupled with proficiency in underwriting and administrative software systems
