Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Commercial Manager – Quantity Surveyor to join our Severn BridgesAccount in Bristol.

Commercial Manager – Quantity Surveyor plays an important part in the delivery of all contractual and commercial duties. Ensuring the implementation of strategy compliant with the Amey Freedom to Perform approach, governance, and legislation to ensure the recovery of contractual entitlement.

The standard hours of work are 37.5 hours per week.

You will be responsible for:

•     Support the delivery of pre and post contract opportunity and risk management using the businesses management tools.

•     Work with Finance to ensure the full cost control of project(s) including providing and monitoring budgets and forecasts in conjunction with the senior Commercial and Operational account management, completing monthly financial reporting and managing WIP in line with contractual entitlement.

•     Manage the change process and review all proposed changes to the works in conjunction with other project team members and ensure all contractual notices and early warnings are submitted within the required timescales.

•     Assist and advise the senior Commercial and Operational account management in ensuring timely issuing of all notices required under the Contract(s)

•     Robust commercial management of subcontractors and supply chain partners.

•     Assist and advise the senior Commercial and Operational account management of any existence of a “claim” and/or “extension of time” situations with regards to taking timely and appropriate measures in line with contractual provision to minimise risk to the business. 

•     Responsible for the creation of robust coding structure to facilitate accurate cost capture.

•     Complete accurate monitoring and support the CVR reporting process.

•     Submit/support the submission of timely Applications for Payment, including Anticipate Final Account, to the Client and endeavour to ensure all payment certificates and payments are in accordance with the Contract(s).

•     Adhere to company policies and processes, and those associated with Revenue Recognition to ensure that all necessary governance is complied with (Amey General Authorities Schedule).

•     Support the Bid and Estimating teams as required in winning strategic bids by supporting the development of the right commercial solutions.

•     Support the handover and mobilisation of key contracts commercially to ensure the tender strategies are understood in delivery and the associated commercial processes and approach implemented.

•     Provide commercial support to deliver winning bids, achieve good p/l results with sustainable cash flows, managed risk and opportunity across a portfolio of Contracts or bids as applicable.

•     Ensure that all supply chain is procured correctly and that sub-contractors are well managed in line with the required outcomes and fair payment requirements. 

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Hold a quantity surveying, commercial or related profession, degree or master’s degree
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, compliance and procedures and the practical application of such
  • Knowledge of NEC3 and 4 forms of contract
  • Awareness of wider industry issues
  • Ability to further Client relationships whilst ensuring that contractual entitlements are not compromised
  • An ability to develop a keen awareness of contract requirements and the ability to identify and secure change
  • Knowledge and experience of supply chain procurement, management, and accounting
  • Knowledge of the records, approaches and options for dispute resolution and avoidance
  • Knowledge of commercial and financial budgeting and reporting
  • Able to apply a methodical style of working if needed
  • Ability to time-manage, set priorities and work to deadlines
