Claims Handler - Fire Saftey

Location: Office based - Evesham

The Role:

  • Manage a portfolio of Fire Safety Claims on a delegated authority basis, handling claims valued at up to £250,000 (depending upon experience).

Key Activities

o Manage all phases of the Fire Safety claim process to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. This will include but is not limited to:

o Receive new claims.

o Complete initial claim review within agreed timeframe.

o Check all claim details to ensure information is accurate and complete. Identify and remedy any queries, discrepancies and/or omissions.

o Make appropriate decision on claim validity, following approved guidelines.

o If claim is rejected, prepare rejection letter for review by Fire Safety Claims Team Manager (FSCTM) and distribute to policyholder once approved.

o If accepted, prepare case strategy review (CSR) and submit for review by FSCTM.

o Once reviewed, make necessary adjustments to the CSR based on feedback from FSCTM and submit for further review as required. Continue this phase until FSCTM approval received.

o Once CTM approval received, process claim and complete agreed actions.

o Accurately interpret expert reports and insurance policies.

o Effectively manage reserves throughout the claim lifecycle.

o Raise payments, ensuring all information is accurate and complete.

o Update Claims Management Portal System to ensure all claim records are accurate and complete, and all data securely stored following appropriate guidelines.

o Participate in any internal or external training as required. You will be expected to achieve the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Certificate in Insurance (Level 3) within an agreed timeframe (if you have not already done so), with the potential for further professional study as your career develops.The company will cover the cost of all training fees but reserves the right to claim back some or all of the costs should you leave the company within a certain timeframe (as stipulated in your contract of employment)

o Manage inbound and outbound calls, emails and letters with insurers, policyholders, fellow professionals and industry specialists

o Manage diary to ensure optimum use of time and resources, meeting all agreed deadlines

o Liaise with policyholders and experts to ensure accurate and timely settlement of claims.

o Identify and assist in pursuing recoveries, and liaise with legal advisors.

o Adopt a proactive approach when managing own claim portfolio.

o Ensure customers are treated fairly in line with policy terms and conditions, abiding by all relevant legal requirements, industry guidelines and company standards.

o Actively participate in team discussions to highlight issues and promote group learning

o Perform other tasks as reasonably required by FSCTM or Senior Management.

Skills and Experience required:

  • Ideally 2+ years experience of claims handling, preferably with a background in Fire Safety .
  • Experience of IT systems including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams, and experience of Claims Management Portal Systems. Training on company system will be given.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A team player who is willing to ask questions to ensure tasks are completed effectively, and willing to assist colleagues by sharing knowledge and expertise.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Able to quickly build positive and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Well organised with excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
  • Confident working independently under instruction.
  • Able to adapt to new challenges.
  • Bachelor degree (preferred), with GCSE English Language grade 5/C or equivalent.
