Position Available: Chief Officer of Police

Salary: £134,059 - £137,399 per annum

Contract: Three years (Extendable for a further two years by mutual agreement)

Red Snapper Recruitment are working with The States of Guernsey to find a visionary and dynamic leader to serve as the Chief Officer of Police and act as the Head of Law Enforcement. This challenging and rewarding position offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of law enforcement in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

About the Role:

As Chief Officer of Police, you will be responsible for providing professional, effective, and efficient police services, while ensuring compliance with statutory and legal obligations. Additionally, you will serve as the Head of Law Enforcement, overseeing the provision of a comprehensive Law Enforcement Service and driving strategic direction during an independent review period. (This review is anticipated to take up to eighteen months, during which an additional allowance will be paid).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and command operational policing responses, ensuring public safety and effective law enforcement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to further policing objectives in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, collaborating with stakeholders and partners.
  • Provide timely and professional advice to the Committee for Home Affairs and set strategic direction for policing.
  • Manage financial resources efficiently, ensuring value for money and compliance with budgetary constraints.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, change, and continuous improvement within law enforcement agencies.
  • Represent Bailiwick Law Enforcement at local, regional, and national levels, promoting visibility and building public confidence.
  • Maintain strategic relationships with partners and stakeholders to enhance public safety and service delivery.

Requirements:

  • Senior management experience in operational policing (equivalent to Police Leadership Program Stage 5 - Executive Leader), with a thorough understanding of policy and practice in public protection and law enforcement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels and represent law enforcement agencies effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, with a track record of driving strategic direction and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Financial management experience, with the ability to manage budgets and resources efficiently.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and upholding professional standards in law enforcement.
