Job Title: Chief Accountant (6-Month Contract)

Salary: £600 per day

Are you an experienced finance professional looking for a new challenge in local government? We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Chief Accountant to join a senior finance management team in Barnet. As the Chief Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of our council and ensuring the effective delivery of our corporate plan and financial strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the financial strategy, ensuring sustainability over the medium term.
- Lead the financial management of the council's capital programme, including robust evaluation of proposals and effective project monitoring.
- Advise on investment and funding strategies, managing investment risk and performance.
- Coordinate the annual closure of the council's and Pension Fund's accounts in consultation with the senior finance leadership team.
- Interpret accounting standards and regulations, ensuring compliance with professional codes of practice and relevant legislation.
Requirements:
- Strategic management experience in a large public sector organisation, preferably local government.
- Significant experience managing technical and financial accounting issues related to public sector funding arrangements.
- Knowledge of major issues facing local government and understanding of national policy context.
- Proven ability to drive effective performance management within an organisation.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence senior management and peers.
