A CFO is being recruited by a sustainably-focused energy business specialising in responsible gas production and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project development. The company focuses on identifying natural gas assets with development potential for gas production and CCS projects committed to carbon-neutral gas production and CO2 emission reduction.

With several new partnerships agreed over the last 12 months focused on CCS projects, the company is part way through a significant transformation that will impact the longer-term revenues and position the business at the forefront of driving positive change in the industry.

Role Overview:

Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will manage all aspects of finance, treasury, investor relations, and capital market requirements. This pivotal role involves driving financial excellence and managing financial performance while having a prominent voice on the Board.

Responsibilities:

1. Driving Financial Excellence:

  • Provide strategic and commercial support to the CEO and the wider business to oversee the business plan, ensuring growth and optimal performance.
  • Implement a disciplined approach to key financial levers, optimising them for maximum impact.
  • Develop and manage a robust KPI framework to measure key milestones, emphasising EBITDA and driving the business’ cash flow.
  • Provide integral support to the CEO in executing strategic projects, joint ventures, and complex financing arrangements for the group.

2. Financial Performance Management:

  • Formulate financial objectives, spearheading the annual budgeting process aligned with the Business Plan.
  • Lead the design and delivery of insightful financial information to the Board and shareholders, facilitating informed decision-making.
  • Evaluate performance against budget and long-term strategy, offering financial guidance for key operational decisions.
  • Develop and manage effective financial systems and controls, including risk management, finance policies, and multi-jurisdiction tax analysis.
  • Oversee all aspects of the group’s interim and year-end accounting process, ensuring compliance with annual external audit and financial filing requirements.

3. Leadership and Team Development:

  • Manage and coach the finance team while overseeing the international relocation of the head office.
  • Establish and maintain high standards of control and accountability within the finance function.

4. Stakeholder Communication:

  • Effectively communicate financial insights to the Board and shareholders.
  • Foster strong, long-term relationships with banks, joint venture partners and other external stakeholders.
  • Lead communications with external advisors, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.

The candidate:

  • Down-to-earth, proactive, autonomous, commercially focused, and hands-on finance leader.
  • A chartered accountant with a minimum of 5-10 years in a finance leadership role, with significant experience working for an energy-related SME.
  • Strong technical accounting background with prior experience in PLC reporting.
