Job Title: Case Manufacturing Joiner

PURPOSE OF JOB:

The case manufacturing function manufactures international packing cases to ensure that the customer cargo travels by it’s relevant mode of transport safely, securely and arrives in the same quality at the supplier as it did on arrival to the warehouse

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (listed but not exhaustive to):

  • Operate within site safety procedures
  • Pre start up checks of associated machines and tools accompanied by relevant sign off to ensure all machinery and tooling if fit for purpose with no defects
  • Notify management/supervision of any defects or equipment falling outside of specification or requiring repair
  • Complete daily workload in a safe and efficient manner, working autonomously to do so
  • Work through cargo in priority set by either supervision/management or by the information on the cargo labels
  • Physical manufacture of wooden packaging including the measuring of cargo, cutting of wood using hand saws, static machine saws and battery powered saws and manufacture using nail guns (hybrid of pneumatic and battery/gas powered guns), Hammers and impact drivers
  • Notify management/supervision of consumable requirements/replacements and any additional/replacement tooling requirements
  • Report any safety or damage related incident to management/supervision so appropriate root cause & corrective action can be identified and action;
  • Look to utilize 'waste’ wood where achievable to reduce waste and improve sustainability

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES:

The job holder will need to be able demonstrate:

  • Minimum NVQ level 3 in joinery (or the equivalent suitable experience of a minimum of 3 years working in a joinery position)
  • Previous experience of using power tools, wall saws, bench saws, cross cut saws desired
  • Ability to use and read a tape measure to measure cargo and reflect that in the cutting of wood used for manufacturing wooden packaging essential
  • Previous training (certified) in lifting procedures/practices or prepared to undertake the training in house
  • Familiar with manual handling best practice
  • Previous experience of manufacturing wood packaging manually would be advantageous but not essential
  • Ability to plan daily work schedules/priorities in order to maximise efficiency and complete the established daily workload
  • Good understanding of health and safety standards/procedures, especially where working with wood is concerned and the need to utilize LEV’s, dust control and working with machinery (saws)
  • Ability to assess, process and suggest improvements to improve safety and efficiency both within their own work and other areas of the business
