Role: Business Development Manager (Bridges Infrastructure)

Location: National Coverage (HQ is in Manchester)

Salary: up to £50,000 (DOE) + OTE + Car Allowance

Type: Full-time/permanent

Our client is a reputable and trusted supplier of Testing, Inspection Certification and Compliance services to the engineering and manufacturing industry. They provide bespoke consultancy support on all manner of projects!

Due to continued growth, we are searching for a Business Development Manager for their Bridges and Structures sector to join their team of experts.

The goal of the role: Our client prides themselves on their relationships with their customers. As the BDM, you will be involved in winning the profitable schemes in the UK Bridges sector (Aged and New Civil Infrastructure). You will manage a pipeline of inbound opportunities generated from existing clients and schemes and work closely with the Business Development and Delivery teams to ensure the team identify and follow up on contract renewal and variation opportunities.

This is a field and office-based role, where your focus will be split between visiting existing and new customers to build long-standing relationships. When you’re not out on visits, you will either work in the office or remotely.

Duties:

  • Identify and deliver long-term strategic client relationships for the UK Bridges sector
  • Undertake strategic customer visits to win new accounts as well as developing existing customer accounts
  • Take responsibility for technical proposals and bids and take them through the stages of the commercial sales process
  • Work closely with the Delivery team to ensure smooth handover 
  • Work with internal teams such as Business Development, Operations, Product Development and Software to estimate costs of potential schemes
  • Prepare customer technical / commercial proposals, including obtaining quotes from core supplier networks as necessary
  • Ensure technical sign-off for proposals and reports is delivered as required
  • Keep the database updated with progress on all relevant opportunities
  • Prioritise opportunities in a way that is aligned with company strategy in consultation with the Business Development and Commercial leadership
  • Proactively seek out and report back market intelligence in relation to competitors, changes in the market, technical standards etc

Experience needed:

  • Hold a full UK Driving License
  • Previous experience within a B2B, client facing, strategic sales role
  • Experience linked to the UK rail or bridge community is a must – however, acceptable experience can be from a transferable infrastructural field
  • Experience of structural monitoring, technical and/or commercial (desirable)
  • Hold an engineering degree or equivalent (desirable), preferably working towards a Chartered or Incorporated qualification.
