Bring your compliance experience to the vital regulation of UK construction products ?

The challenge

Regulation is a powerful Government tool to address market failures, influence behaviour and promote positive action. Crafted and delivered well, regulation can be an enabler of growth, innovation and efficiency. Here at the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), our goal is to be a trusted regulator for the UK.

Since 2021, we have been leading and coordinating work that will set a new regulatory approach for construction products. We are driving the improvement of safety and performance standards. Together we’ll work towards a regulatory environment in which businesses have the confidence to invest and grow whilst ensuring that consumers and the environment are protected.

About the role

In this multi-faceted role, you will help to build our reputation in this new area by planning and developing our regulatory capacity and delivery.?Day to day, this will mean contributing to the development of testing programmes and undertaking regulatory activities. You can expect to lead investigations into suspected non-compliance, and support complex investigations by managing evidence, building cases and supporting lead investigators. At the same time, you will build relationships with the construction product industry and relevant trade bodies, providing guidance and support to enable greater compliance. We’ll look to you to develop your expertise by staying up-to-date with developments in the wider construction product industry and building safety landscape.

About you

You’re likely to have some experience of operating within a regulatory compliance environment: for example, ensuring goods, services or systems meet regulatory standards. During this time, you will have demonstrated strategic problem-solving and analytical skills. The ability to research, understand, assess and apply technical information is key. You should also be able to scope, plan and guide the delivery of work with a focus on results. Confident, decisive and flexible, you’ll be equipped to develop relationships and networks quickly.

Benefits

We offer a range of benefits including a generous leave allowance, flexible working options, learning and development tailored to your role, and a Civil Service pension.
