Hoop Professional Services are proud to be supporting Merthyr Housing with the recruitment for up to 4 board members and 2 co-opt members to join their existing board of directors.

We are seeking motivated individuals who can have empathy with the tenants and community in and around Merthyr. Your background, whether public or private is less important to us than your appreciation of the area which they operate, Merthyr Tydfil, as well as an understanding of the wider social, economic and environmental issues and their challenges as a housing association. You will support the housing association in their vision to take the Association forward, with their key strategic priorities:

  • Growth
  • Improving and Maintaining Services
  • People and Culture
  • Decarbonisation
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
You must understand what it means to be on a board of a committed, community focused organisation and be a team player operating to the highest standards in a culture of openness.

We are open to conversations with experienced board members OR this could be your first application for the board. We are looking for an individual with a specific area of expertise to benefit the business and to ensure a balanced and diverse board, in this case:

  • Human Resources
  • PR & Marketing
  • Health & Safety
  • Asset Management
  • Community Development
The requirements of this role would be to attend the board meetings (on average 8 per year). These are held on a 6 weekly cycle via a hybrid model, some held virtually and others face to face. You would be provided with an ipad to access the meetings. You would also be asked to attend away days, induction and training sessions as required. On average, you would be asked to commit 7 hours per month to the association.

These roles are voluntary. If you have been a board member before, you will understand the value of being on a board. If you are considering applying for the first time, being on a board will provide you with first-hand experience of managing risk,
setting a strategic vision and negotiating. You will be able to develop you ownleadership skills by learning from others, establish and grow your network and learn how other businesses operate.
