A quick look at the role.

To develop and finalise the cost, financial and commercial models for all bids and price submissions for the Municipal Division.

To take ownership of the Division's cost modelling for all bids and tenders using the core Financial Model (Excel based).

Work with the Business Development Manager leading an individual bid to create and develop the Tender Financial Model through all stages of the bid process.

Take ownership of the ongoing development of business cost model. This includes ensuring all users are adequately trained, the completed cost models are checked and working with the external modelling provider for any future updates and improvements.

Contribute to the internal reports including progress meetings, sign-off approval meetings and escalation to Investment Committee and Group Board.

Liaise with all departments (including Fleet, HR, IT, Procurement) to maintain the current cost base for all core items affecting the Municipal business.

Work with the Head of Business Development (or designated sponsor) to develop the first stage Resourcing Model to connect into the Financial Model.

Maintain a database of current performance metrics for street and collection contracts (including operational and cost metrics) to enable accurate creation of cost estimates, sensitivity analyses and contract comparisons.

Attend Regional Meetings to keep up to date with existing contracts; identify development opportunities; and develop working relationships with Regional and Business Managers.

To support the Development Director on specific projects as requested.

To support the Company in achievement of the Biffa Balanced Business Plan.

The Cost Modeller is a key role in the Business Development Team within the Municipal Division. The long-term nature of the contracts necessitates an accurate assessment of a wide range of costs and outputs to accurately assess the final price to submit to a client as part of a complex tendering exercise.

Requirements

Here's what we require:

Education / Qualifications

  • Educated to Degree Level
  • Grade A or B GCSE Mathematics or equivalent
  • A level Mathematics
  • Accountancy qualification (CIMA, IAAT, ACCA) - Desirable

    Experience

  • Working in a tendering, bidding or pricing environment or
  • Financial Modelling or similar accounting department
  • Cost Modelling
  • Estimating
  • Waste Industry knowledge

    Technical Knowledge

  • Intermediate / advanced Excel
  • Financial systems

    General

  • Ability to work as part of a team and support on specific projects and tenders
  • Ability to work occasional unsociable hours and be flexible to deadlines
  • Willingness to travel
