Job Title: Assistant Ecologist

Salary: £24,000 - £26,000

Location: Bristol

We are looking for an Assistant Ecologist to join a leading, international engineering consultancy in their Bristol office. You'll join an award-winning team that works across the UK on a massive variety of projects. As an Assistant Ecologist your duties will be:

  • Providing ecological support to a varied range of projects across different sectors and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Planning and coordinating field surveys, analysing and interpreting survey results.
  • Undertaking field surveys and managing survey data.
  • Authoring ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals.
  • Undertaking mapping using QGIS; and assisting with bid preparation and building client relationships.

To be considered for the Assistant Ecologist position, you will need:

  • A degree in ecology, biology, zoology or closely related field.
  • At least qualifying membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or an application in process (cover available for membership costs).
  • Experience with UKHabitat surveys.
  • Survey skills for one or more protected species.
  • An understanding of Scottish and UK wildlife legislation, planning policies, licensing requirements and best practice survey techniques.
  • Understanding of biodiversity net gain (BNG) / application of biodiversity enhancements.
  • Experience of producing ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal Reports.
  • Strong collaborative behaviours to interface with multi-disciplinary teams and other stakeholders.
  • Willingness to complete field surveys and travel to different sites.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A full valid UK/EEC driving licence.
