Applications Engineer - Photonics
Location: Home/Field Based & Bedfordshire office
Salary: £35k-£50k + £10 OTE (dep on exp) + company car, laptop, Phone etc.
 
An exciting new career opportunity for an Applications Engineer or Scientist / Physicist with a background in photonics has been created at a leading Bedfordshire based supplier of hi-technology laboratory systems. 
 
The Photonics Applications Engineer is a largely field-based role covering the UK and Ireland, as such the Applications Engineer / Scientist can be home-based pretty much anywhere in the UK (dep on exp) but you will need to be in the Cranfield Science Park office (Bedfordshire M1/J13)  around one day per week and be happy traveling to customers 2/3 days a week.
 
As the Photonics Applications Engineer, you will be a key driver in growing the Photonics business area. Working alongside a highly respected industry specialist from whom you can learn and develop your skill/knowledgebase even further, you will use your background in Photonics/Optics/Laser physics technologies to act as the key technical sales link between customers and the international manufacturers of the instruments. You will work with the customer to solve technical queries, help them to define the precise details of the often-bespoke systems prior to ordering and subsequently support them through the installation and commission of the product.
 
Applications Engineer / Sales Engineer Job Requirements:
  • Strong degree in the following areas: Applied Physics, Electronics or Photonics (eg BSc, MPhys, etc)
  • Recent experience within an applications/technical sales role e.g. Applications Engineer, Applications Scientist, Optronics Engineer, Photonics Engineer.
  • Extensive recent experience in a client facing role – specifically dealing with photonics/optics product development.
  • Familiarity with optical/Photonics systems - preferably with experience of sales in this field
  • Commercial aptitude with the flair and ability to think laterally in a business environment.
  • Highly computer literate
  • Personable and presentable, with excellent written and verbal English skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willing to visit customer sites
 
Vacancy location:
Home based / Field based ideally central England and able to travel to Bedford/Milton Keynes (M1 J13/ J14) area at least one day per week.
