An engineering company based in the Portsmouth area have partnered with the team at NET Recruit to support their search for an Accounts Assistant on a permanent basis. The position holder will be an important asset to this business, with the expectation for them to take ownership of the transactional facets within the finance function, including purchase and sales ledger and credit control. Alongside this, the position holder will be supporting on month end duties and reconciliations, whilst also getting the exciting opportunity to work on some ad-hoc projects under the guidance of both the Financial Controller and Chief Financial Officer. As a result, this will prove to be a life changing role for the successful candidate, as they will gain excellent experience that will continue to grow and transferable, unparalleled exposure working closely alongside side finance leaders who they can learn and develop from.

Your Role & Responsibilities:
While in this position your duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Taking ownership of the transactional finance processes and duties of the business, acting as the point of contact for these and reporting into the Financial Controller
  • Managing the purchase ledger activities for the business, to include handling supplier reconciliations and supplier queries and also payment runs
  • Overseeing the sales ledger function and credit control for the business, including sorting out invoices and ensuring that customers pay on time and that cash flow is stable
  • Providing support on balance sheet and bank reconciliations
  • Assisting with various month end activities, supporting the Financial Controller and Chief Financial Officer
  • Providing advice and knowledge on finance related queries across the business when it is needed
  • Working on very exciting ah-hoc projects as set out by the Financial Controller and Chief Financial Officer

What You Will Need to Apply:

For this position, applicants are expected to be AAT qualified or possess an equivalent financial qualification, with prior experience of working in a transactional accountancy position, with strong experience in both sales and purchase ledger. Exposure to the engineering industry would be beneficial when being considered for this role. Candidates should be familiar with Microsoft Excel and other accounting software. The business wishes to speak with strong communicators, those able to report into and address senior management, whilst also providing valuable financial information to a range of stakeholders and customers when needed.

The company will reward the successful candidate with a starting salary, dependent on previous experience, which could be in the region of £29,000 and this will accompany a very good surrounding package including excellent holiday, pension and a selection of other highly sought after perks. 

The business promotes a half working day on Fridays and the successful candidate will be able to finish at 12:30, whilst on other days the hours will be full time.
