Curriculum

Module 01: An Introduction to Sustainable Energy
In module one, we will learn why sustainable energy matters so much in today’s world, and will explore the different sources of sustainable energy in detail. It also discusses energy in a sustainable future.

Module 02: Solar Energy: Thermal
In module two, we will deepen our understanding of how solar energy heating systems work and take an in-depth look at solar thermal power plants.

Module 03: Solar Energy: Photovoltaics
In module three, we will explore the design, benefits and limitations of photovoltaic systems, gaining a solid understanding of photovoltaic cells and their functions.

Module 04: Wind Energy
In module four, we will learn about the characteristics of wind energy and how electricity is generated by wind turbines. We will also familiarise with the different types of wind turbines, offshore wind energy and wind farms.

Module 05: Bioenergy
In module five, we will broaden our knowledge of biogas, and its resources and types, as well as take a look at the principles of biogas technology. It also provides essential information on biofuel and its classifications.

Module 06: Geothermal Energy
In module six, we will familiarise with the different types of geothermal plants, comparing them to other plants, as well as take a look at their benefits and limitations.

Module 07: Tidal Energy
In module seven, we will explore the components of tidal power systems, as well as learn the differences between tidal energy and wave energy, including their benefits and limitations.

Module 08: Environmental Impacts: A Global and Regional Assessment
In module eight, we will deepen our understanding of the environmental impacts of each source of sustainable energy, and the different ways in which they can be used to create a more environmentally-friendly planet.

Module 09: Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development
In module nine, we will learn more about the two-way relationship between sustainable development and renewables, including barriers and opportunities. It also discusses energy indicators of sustainable development.

Module 10: The Future of Renewable Energy in the UK into the 2020s and Beyond
In this final module, we will take an in-depth look at the drivers of technological change, and the sustainable choices we can make for the future. It also provides important information UK programme successes, limits and policy influences.

Course Assessment

You will immediately be given access to a specifically crafted MCQ test upon completing an online module. For each test, the pass mark will be set to 60%.

Certificate

Once you’ve successfully completed your course, you will immediately be sent a digital certificate. Also, you can have your printed certificate delivered by post (shipping cost £3.99). Our certifications have no expiry dates, although we do recommend that you renew them every 12 months.
