Overview

This course is being delivered on 18 & 19 June 2024.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to produce reports and dashboards in Power BI, drawing on and transforming data from a variety of sources. They will be able to create multi-page reports and dashboards based on their own data and their organisation’s themes with a variety of graphical and tabular outputs.

Description

Power BI is rapidly becoming a standard tool for producing interactive reports and dashboards and this course will provide a systematic introduction to Power BI, focusing on the workflow, from data preparation through to building and sharing visuals. There will be a focus on design issues, helping to achieve the right level of functionality and usability based on the intended audience. Particular attention will also be paid to the use of basic statistics.​

Topics Covered

Day 1 will cover:

  • Overview of the workflow with a quick start to produce our first Power BI report followed by focus on the visuals (the chart types, tables and slicers)
  • Working with the data including an introduction to the Power Query editor; introduction to the DAX formula language; filters; visual headers; drill

Day 2 will cover:

  • Using basic statistics (correlation, linear regression and t tests); more on DAX
  • Power BI service; report and dashboard deployment; bookmarks for story telling; security

Who is this course for?

The course is designed for those with no knowledge of Power BI but are responsible for producing reports and disseminating analysis. The course will be particularly helpful for those wanted to communicate their data analysis to a wider audience.

Requirements

Knowledge of Excel is assumed. Knowledge of pivot tables (especially Power Pivot) is especially helpful as is an understanding of basic statistics.
