Course Overview
This specifically constructed training track will satisfy all those who want to enter the fascinating world of web design. (We recommend reading our 'Web Design & Development' background in our Free IT Training & Certification Guide, which will clear up a few misunderstandings around this industry.)
This program delivers a collection of the very best multimedia training materials available from around the world - all chosen to introduce and cover the essential areas of knowledge required for commercial web design & development.
The overall program is essentially divided into two halves: The first delivering classic 'creative web design' training based around the Adobe® CS4 design suite. The second half then continues into the more commercially oriented world of 'web development'. Both are essential for anyone looking to professionally enter the field of web design.
We start by introducing the main Adobe CS4 web design packages: Dreamweaver®, Flash®, PhotoShop® & Fireworks®.
At this point, we take a sideways step to cover HTML & CSS, the underlying page description languages that drive the internet. An understanding of these areas is absolutely essential for any web designer. Although Dreamweaver and most other graphical web design environments create HTML code for you in the background, you must understand and be able to edit, fix and rewrite this code. Failure to properly understand HTML is like claiming to be able to drive with no knowledge of how road and traffic systems work. Sure, you can wiggle the steering wheel and push the pedals to make the vehicle move, but without this vital extra knowledge, you can't actually use these skills to go anywhere.
We're now able to jump back into the Adobe CS4 suite (armed with an understanding of HTML & CSS) - with the next three modules expanding on your knowledge of Dreamweaver and Flash.
X-HTML is then covered, which is a combination of HTML and XML (eXtensible Markup Language), along with a deeper look into CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and a brief introduction to CSS2.
An introduction to PHP programming comes next: Over 3 modules, we build your understanding of this simple but powerful web language - and its interface with SQL databases. PHP & MySQL will provide a fundamental understanding of the basics of modern web programming languages and data storage for dynamic content-driven websites.
We then move onto JavaScript and its cousin: Ajax. These technologies allow you to create applications and mini-applets embedded into a web page which do not require refreshing of the browser - providing the feel of a desktop application.
We finish off the training series with a look at the E-commerce project cycle - to prepare you for the real world, and an introduction to Apache Web Server administration; the most commonly used web server on the planet.
The most important thing to emphasise is that the training itself will not make you a web-designer; it will merely teach you the methods and skills. Throughout your study and training, you must apply yourself to building and creating as many websites as possible, to practice and build your portfolio. This will look more favourable on your CV, than any certificate from Adobe will!
