Our Assurance & Advisory team provides an expert service to many types of organisations across the world. Our clients range from small owner-managed businesses to listed companies, partnerships, charities and government bodies; and we cover a broad spectrum of industries and sectors.

Purpose of the role:

To work as part of a team within the Assurance and Advisory department dealing with a mixed portfolio of clients working to complete both statutory and non statutory accounts and management accounts for unincorporated businesses, medical practices, and limited companies below the audit threshold, and assist in the audits of larger clients within a designated timeframe including working with our specialist public sector team. You will be working towards membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales (ICAEW) or an equivalent institute.

Principal duties:
  • Gathering of audit evidence through communication and interaction with client staff;
  • Prepare analysis of accounting data from clients books and records;
  • Ensure audit files have all relevant documentation on the appropriate section; check appropriate and sufficient documentation obtained to support the opinion and documenting all conclusions;
  • Active adherence to budget and timetable, bringing matters to the attention of the senior or manager, particularly when actual time is in excess of budget;
  • Involvement in the planning, execution and finalisation of the audit assignment supporting the Senior or Manager;
  • Ensure compliance with internal (audit methodology and risk management) and external (regulatory) requirements;
  • To work on clients premises on an ad hoc basis to complete accounts preparation assignments and produce financial statements, and assist in audits;
  • Develop and strengthen client relationships;
  • Add value to clients' businesses through analysing their strengths and weaknesses, and recommending effective solutions;
  • Assist in the development of more junior trainees within the team by supervising, coaching and developing less experienced staff whilst on assignment;
  • Carry out ad hoc assignments as may be reasonably required by your group;


Education / Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 280 UCAS Points and 2:1 degree or of graduate calibre; AAT qualified
  • Currently studying or a willingness to undertake further study towards ACA/ CA qualification.


Key Competencies:
  • Experience of working in a professional firm;
  • Experience of working for/on behalf of the Audit Commission, NHS and or Local Government, with a familiarity with the basics of the Code of Practise would be advantageous;
  • Able to approach projects logically, with good numerical skills;
  • An attention to detail and accuracy is necessary and an essential part of the role;
  • Ability to communicate at all levels both internally and externally;
  • Delivering results and meeting client expectations;
  • Entrepreneurial and commercial thinking;
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and Microsoft office applications essential.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach is essential;
  • Full driving licence is an advantage.
