JOB PURPOSE

Our client is a 61 year old lady with an acquired brain injury sustained from a road traffic accident. She lives with her family in her home in Ilford, Essex.

As a result of the accident she has cognitive disabilities including difficulties with attention and concentration, Short term memory problems, difficulties with problem solving, organising/planning and takes longer to process information.

Our client is fully mobile and independent in personal care so requires a part-time support worker to support her rehabilitation and development, in particular her emotional and psychological well being.

The role of the Support Worker will be to help our client engage in social activities; take her to appointments, support her emotional and psychological development and to work towards her goals. The successful support worker will also be required to speak fluent Punjabi as our client speaks very limited English.

At this stage a total of 16 - 22 hours a week over three days is required. The amount of time required will be monitored on an ongoing basis.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To help and support the development of appropriate ways of managing daily life. 

2. To encourage and help develop beneficial skills in all areas. 

3.  To encourage and develop strengths.

4.  To explore, develop and sustain productive activities. 

5.  To work to ensure that all parties involved adopt a consistent approach.

6.   To be supervised by and work under the direction of the case manager.

7.    To be trained by the case manager.

8.     To keep accurate written records as directed by the case manger.

9.     To attend appointments with our client

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

You will be supervised, in person, by the case manager on a regular basis.  In addition to this, regular telephone contact will be maintained. 

Successful applicants will be asked to complete a CRB check.

  • Achievement of goals set out in the care plan
  • Establish effective relationships with client and other members of the care team.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • To attend training as required.

Person Specification:

Ideal candidates will have previous support worker experience in a similar setting /or will be studying/or will have completed studying a relevant qualification i.e. Nursing, Social Care, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy etc. however this is not essential. Applicants with a genuine interest in this type of work and the ability to take a responsible, caring and positive approach will also be considered.  Ideally candidates will have experience dealing with emotional issues as knowledge in this area will help to understand the client’s and family’s needs.

We require a Support Worker with excellent communication skills. Applicants must be able to maintain a calm approach when dealing with difficult situations. The ability to pre-empt a difficult situation and to act promptly to reduce risk will be a key attribute in this role, therefore we are looking to recruit a candidate with initiative, patience, sensitivity and good problem solving skills.

Training and ongoing support will be provided for this role by the Case Manager.

It would be ideal if the successful applicant had access to their own transport.
