PAY:                                                    £ 12.50 per hour              

HOURS:                                              4 hours a week

JOB PURPOSE

We are currently seeking a support worker to support a 27 year old man with learning difficulties, living in Bedford.  

It is the activity support worker’s role to work with the client on a one to one basis, in theclient’s home and the local community. Our client is due to start a photography course at a private college on a Tuesday, so the main part of the role will be attending college with him and supporting him with his college work. You will also be required to work alongside a multidisciplinary team and his family.

Our client enjoys playing pool, photography and going to the gym, so the successful applicant will ideally have similar interests.

At this stage we are looking for someone that can work 4pm - 8pm every Tuesday and one Sunday a month until the course is completed. After the course has finished the hours will be over two days during the week (Monday - Friday).

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To liaise and keep the Case Manager and Therapists informed of all progress and problems.
  • To complete written activity support worker case notes.
  • To attend training in relevant areas.

Key tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide and maintain a high standard of support to the client to enable them to live as independent life as possible.
  • Following the clients individual Support Worker Guideline and guidelines put in place by the multidisciplinary team
  • Participate in external training and development activities as required
  • Comply with all the employers’ procedures including financial, human resource, and health and safety.

Person Specification:

Ideal candidates will have previous support worker experience in a similar setting /or will be studying/or will have completed studying a relevant qualification i.e. Nursing, Social Care, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy etc. however this is not essential.

Ideally candidates will have experience dealing with behavioural management and an understanding of brain injury as knowledge in this area will help to understand the client’s issues and behaviour.

Ideally the candidate will have a working knowledge of photography to support and educate the client within the context of college based learning.

We require a Support Worker with excellent communication skills. Applicants must be able to maintain a calm approach when dealing with difficult situations. The ability to pre-empt a difficult situation and to act promptly to reduce risk will be a key attribute in this role, therefore we are looking to recruit a candidate with initiative, patience and good problem solving skills.

Training and ongoing support will be provided for this role by the Case Manager.
Please note that all expenses incurred as part of this role (mileage, parking, business vehicle insurance etc) would be reimbursed.

It would be ideal if the successful applicant had access to their own transport.
