Senior Network Engineer - CCNP/CCIE

Description

We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer that can flourish in a challenging and rewarding environment.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you understand the issues involved with administering and maintaining corporate infrastructures, including network connectivity, internet access, mail, DNS, etc. and you are comfortable interfacing with customers. You understand that the network business is a 24x7 business and as such, you don't have a 9 to 5 mentality.

In addition, the Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide training to colleagues where required.

The Senior Network Engineer will report directly to the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning

  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records, using MS Office products like Word and Visio
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Deploy LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including, routers, hubs, switches, WAN-accelerators  and other hardware.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
  • Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors and customers to secure network products and services.

Operational Management

  • Configure networks (LAN/WAN) to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of customer's hardware and software.
  • Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances.
  • Provide third and fourth-tier support for networks and on a lower level for systems, databases and applications.
  • Automate tasks as much as possible through the development of scripts and our proprietary framework.
  • Identify, evaluate and recommend network related tools and emerging network technologies.
  • Ensuring 24x7x365 operation of internal and client systems.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
  • Participate in managing all network security solutions.
  • Provide guidance to (junior) members of the team.
  • Monitor network stability, availability and performance.
  • Identify, diagnose and resolve network problems as needed.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

  • HBO degree
  • CCNP- or equivalent certified
  • Additional certifications is a plus

Knowledge & Experience

Must have

  • Hands-on experience implementing and administrating network devices
  • 7+ years of network administration mandatory
  • Expert experience with Cisco routers and switches (all platforms)
  • Experience with Cisco PIX and ASA platforms
  • Knowledge about VPN technologies (IPsec, MPLS)
  • In depth knowledge of TCP/IP
  • Knowledge of routing protocols: OSPF, EIGRP
  • Must have user-level experience with Linux systems
  • Excellent troubleshooting experience
  • Strong knowledge of LAN related technologies: STP, vlans, HSRP, VTP etc.
  • Working technical knowledge of HTTP/S, DNS, POP, SMTP, FTP, SNMP, Tacacs+ etc.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of BGP
  • Working knowledge of proxy servers
  • Knowledge about- and experience with network monitoring tools
  • Knowledge about ITIL
  • Experience with scripting languages like Perl and Expect is a plus
  • Expertise in non-Cisco platforms, such as HP Procurve, Bluecoat, Brocade is a plus
