Senior Commissioning Editor, Global Legal Publisher

Informa Business Information (IBI) provides authoritative news, insightful research, data and events for the scientific, professional and commercial business communities.  An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commissioning Editor to join our Books Division, which focuses on commissioning new titles and new editions in key lists for our prestigious professional-level legal book programme. Currently our coverage comprises Maritime law, Commercial law, Construction law and various leading titles in our high profile Lloyd’s portfolio.

Reporting to the Commercial Director this role will be responsible for growing the revenue and profit across designated titles / lists and will oversee projects from research, to signing, to handover into production.  They will liaise with production and marketing on schedules and suitable launch activities and keep titles to budget and to schedule, determining optimum edition cycles and ensuring these are achieved.  Market intimacy is key in this role, and the post-holder will be expected to spend upto 50% of their time out in the market.  Given the demographics of the legal community we serve, much of this contact time will be conducted in London, but other travel may be required.

The successful candidate should demonstrate

• Proven experience in managing editorial projects, preferably to include digital resources
• Relevant Editorial training and experience, preferably in legal publishing
• Degree educated
• Exceptional time management
• Strong relationship management to optimise author relations
• Be a self-starter and be able to work autonomously, but must be adaptable to the needs of the greater team
