A fantastic opportunity for an experienced buyer / senior buyer to join a leading engineering / manufacturing organisation

Providing specific purchasing service for direct materials, goods and services, the buyer / senior buyer will be responsible for coordinating purchasing and supplier activity aimed at introducing new components with the quality, cost and delivery requirements specified with new product introduction / company processes.

The successful buyer / senior buyer will be required to ensure that direct materials, goods and services are purchased at the most competitive prices worldwide, on time and to the required specifications.

Salary - £35,000 - £45,000 (+ benefits)

Location - Staffordshire

Key Responsibilities:

- The buyer / senior will be responsible for eliminating defect parts and poor suppliers by jointly reviewing the supplier performance data
- Prioritise suppliers for the application of performance improvement processes and resources
- Ensure that New Product Introduction Processes are being applied to all new and transferred parts
- Compile annual budgets indicating forecast material cost movements, year on year
- Deliver cost reduction targets set for Divisional (value for money) activity
- Increase the value year on year of direct materials sourced and understand the benchmark global commodity cost
- Ensure that commodity strategies are established for major commodities and that they are communicated, applied and updated
- Deliver the Group Purchasing plan objectives
- Establish the appropriate “supply chain” for direct materials in order to improve delivery performance

Personal Specification:

- Qualified to degree level or equivalent
- Previous procurement experience at buyer / senior buyer level within an automotive or similar manufacturing organisation
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Strong understanding of lean principles and manufacturing processes
- Highly IT literate
