Job Description
A Secondary School based in Harrow, Middlesex is looking to recruit a Science Technician (Chemistry) to join the Science team within a long term role, so must be available to start asap.
To provide efficient, professional support for the Chemistry department.
Term time (39 weeks per year) 36 hours per week
Main Tasks:
Provision and collection of teaching materials and equipment (including chemical solutions, agar plates, electrical equipment)
Check gas, electrical points and water/sinks and rectify or report problems
Check, replenish and clean class sets of equipment and glassware
General maintenance of equipment. Remove from circulation and repair damaged or faulty equipment
Check and sterilise eye-wash stations and wash cloths
Prepare, deliver and return to storage, chemicals, equipment and other teaching aids
Check safety of teaching materials and equipment
Check text books, return to central store, repair as necessary
Record videos and keep catalogue up to date
Monitor laboratories to ensure a clean, safe and orderly working environment
Clear laboratories at the end of the day as appropriate
Keep up to date with Health and Safety and COSSH regulations
Maintain and update safety equipment and information in prep rooms and laboratories
Ensure all chemicals, radioactive materials and equipment are stored and used in line with local regulations
Advise teaching staff of ‘clashes’ and other problems
Successful applicants will be expected to provide a full range of technical support services to the Science Department to support the teaching of Chemistry department. A scientific Chemistry background and laboratory experience are essential requirements, as is a knowledge of the practical needs of the science curriculum and the ability to prepare materials and resources for teaching laboratories.
