Organisation Description

Your Role as a Residential Care Worker:

"You will provide ’professional parenting’ to young people aged 10-18 who, because of their life experiences, present challenging behaviour. You will help them learn to develop positive relationships and allow them to grow emotionally, socially and intellectually." 

Hours of Working
A working week of 40 hours averaged over three weeks. 
Sessions of 16 hours are worked followed by an 8 hour sleepover. (sleepovers additional £30) approx 10 per month.

Annual Leave
Annual leave for this post is 14 sessions (equivalent 28 days). Enhancements are paid if you rota pattern falls on a bank holiday (additional £50).

Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

1. To work with young people to address challenging behaviour and promote the welfare of our young people as first priority. 
2. To develop a positive working relationship with our young people to enable change and emotional growth to enhance their quality of life. 
3. To keep accurate paperwork records. 
4. To communicate clearly with the young people and colleagues. 
5. To create opportunities for young people to learn and develop to their full potential by encouraging each young person to develop their self esteem and realise new skills. 
6. To provide a homely residential care provision of the highest possible quality by keeping the care home clean and tidy.
7. To help run the home within a weekly set budget. 
8. To be part of an enthusiastic and dedicated team and attending regular team meetings. 
9. To attend training days in order to achieve Level 3 Children and Young Peoples Workforce Diploma and gain relevant skills and knowledge for the role in order to provide satisfying and continuing professional development and a good working environment.
10. To undertake any other duties as necessary to support the needs of the young people.

Person Specification

Essential 

Must have NVQ 3 or equivalent in Young People
Full manual driving licence 
Must be able to work 24 hour session
Honesty and reliability 
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Flexible working approach 
Good standard of written and oral communication 
Committed to personal development 
Ability to maintain boundaries 
Non-judgmental
Ability to understand the issues facing young people 
Experience of working with young people
