PURPOSE OF JOB:

To carry out qualitative and quantitative research to inform and support the work of the organisation, and to provide research support to the Research Team.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* To support the design and administration of surveys on dentistry topics;
* To support the collection of qualitative data on dentistry topics;
* To manage both quantitative and qualitative data for research purposes - for example, using Access, Excel and the membership record system, CARE;
* To carry out analyses of quantitative and qualitative data using software packages such as SPSS and NVivo;
* To supervise temporary staff performing administrative work;
* To collate evidence and undertake literature reviews where necessary;
* To respond to research related queries and information requests from members, colleagues and at external organisations;
* To coordinate the design and production of the Policy and Research Bulletin;
* To disseminate the findings from research through reports and other media;
* To ensure that the research section of the website is regularly maintained and updated;
* To contribute to all aspects of the research activity as necessary;
* To undertake other duties as may be required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

The following skills and attributes are essential:

* A degree in either economics, public policy, social research, or a health-related subject;
* Previous experience of social, economic or health research, including experience of coordinating small-scale research projects;
* Interest in healthcare policy and dental care in the UK;
* Sound knowledge of research strategies and methods used in either social, economic, or health research;
* Good knowledge of survey design and administration;
* Experience of entering, managing and analysing quantitative data in SPSS;
* Experience and knowledge of the principles underpinning qualitative research;
* Experience of writing research reports and disseminating research findings to a range of different audiences;
* Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
* Good numeracy skills, including some knowledge of statistics;
* Excellent keyboard/IT skills and able to use MS Excel and MS Access;
* Excellent attention to detail;
* The ability to work independently without supervision, as well as part of a team;
* Excellent organisational capabilities.
