This is a thoroughly exciting opportunity to join a leading Engineering organisation. As part of their growth strategy to double the size of their business every 4 years they need a dedicated resource for purchasing, NPI and commodity management. The role will increase the focus on cost reduction, Low Cost Sourcing (LCS), NPI, Commodity Management whilst supporting the manufacturing supply chain for inventoried and non-inventoried items.

The Purchasing Manager is a new role tasked with running the purchasing and sourcing function.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure day-to-day direct and indirect material demand is satisfied on time and at agreed cost
  • Control process and sign-off for all external purchases in line with sign off authorities.
  • Put supplier score cards in place and metrics 
  • Improve supplier performance (cost, quality, delivery) through work-outs
  • Consolidate purchases by commodity and negotiate prices
  • Identify and implement cost-out projects including in/out sourcing opportunities to reduce cost
  • Increase sourcing from low cost countries (LCC)
  • Put metrics in place and display publicly
  • Manage budget for investments, T&L and personnel
  • Develop communication strategy to insure all members of your team and interfacing departments (customers) understand the goals of the organization and the current status of challenges and successes.
  • Management of Purchasing team and its work activities.  Continuously reassess team for its capabilities and make changes to ensure improved performance
  • Support team members and peers in their development and success by proactively offering constructive feedback and help
  • Strategic input to deliver cost reductions annually
  • Placing purchase orders and carrying our other departmental tasks to support the Buyers in busy periods

KEY DELIVERABLES:

  • Sourcing cost saving, material availability, inventory reduction, shipping costs, on time delivery
  • Quality perception with customer

Key Internal Relationships:

  • Interact and drive improvements

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Manufacturing engineering or design experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven ability to deliver cost reductions
  • 5 years sourcing experience, preferably from low cost countries and commodity based environment
    • Commercial savvy and experience from commercial negotiations
    • Customer focused
    • Experience of Managing a team and its work activities
    • Excellent computer skills (Word, Access, Excel, Powerpoint, MSX)
    • Proven leader of change to drive business measurements
    • English + other European language

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • 5 years experience in materials management, supply chain
  • Understanding of inventory replenishment parameters and calculations

 Qualifications:

  • Degree level education
