The increasing focus on Cost Management and the requirement to identify more competitive commercial supply arrangements in conjunction with the growth in Centrally managed problem resolution and Risk Management has resulted in the need to strengthen the Purchasing Team with the appointment of an additional Purchasing Managers to focus on sourcing better and more cost effective suppliers and to allow more effective management of our current suppliers while maintaining the Teams responsiveness to internal demands. 

The person will play an integral role in developing sourcing Strategies for key areas of Ingredient requirements for the business. With experience of Supplier selection, sourcing Ingredients to required standards, and obtaining optimum Value for Money through market knowledge and negotiating capability, this individual will be able to proactively influence key stakeholders to implement improvement projects while working in a fast paced environment on multiple projects simultaneously. A hands on approach to dealing with tasks is required as well as an individual who is happy to take ownership of key Value Added projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to improve the Value for Money obtained for food/commodity purchases across the Group
  • Take ownership for and drive key cost saving initiatives throughout the business in key areas of responsibility.
  • Obtain value for money ensuring that key research, monitoring and evaluation is completed to ensure value is maintained
  • Develop key relationships with suppliers to ensure the plc receives commercially attractive terms ahead of the market average
  • Ensure close liaison with the internal stakeholders to ensure all areas of the supply chain meet business needs
  • Ensure all purchases comply with current legislation and group policies
  • Within areas of responsibility monitor availability, service level and overall satisfaction resolving any issues if they arise
  • Contribute to the development of the Group Purchasing Team by identifying improvements to current practices

Key Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience of working in an FMCG environment
  • Track record of successful implementation of Value improvement projects
  • Demonstrable market knowledge within Food purchasing areas
  • Experience of successful contract negotiations in relevant areas
  • Ability to demonstrate influential communication
  • Strong organisation and planning skills
  • Self motivated with a Passion to deliver Continuous Improvement.
