My client a leading internationally recognised professional body is currently looking for a Public Relations Officer.

The successful candidate will be responsible for, alongside the PR manager, PR agency and digital communications team, maintaining the quality of the professional membership body media profile (not just the volumes of coverage) across national, trade, regional and social media.

The key focus of the role is on maximising coverage for the professional membership body highly respected research and policy outputs and related external engagement work. Work will include writing and 'selling in’ news releases to the national, regional and trade press, radio and TV in order to maximise media coverage, as well as proactively placing and writing feature articles and opinion pieces.

The public relations officer will also be expected to look for opportunities to promote related training courses, seminars, workshops and conferences and will need to work closely with the marketing and digital communications teams to develop a joined up approach to achieving these goals.

The PR or Press Officer will form part of a busy and well-respected press office, which has long enjoyed a prominent media profile, with an average of 30 national news mentions and 18 broadcast clips per month, supported by countless articles in industry and business trade publications.

Key Experience Required

You will be of graduate calibre, with previous experience gained in public relations or a press office role.

Experience in, or an understanding of, HR, Human Resources, Personnel, people management or development related issues would be an advantage.

Experience working as public relations officer or press officer for a Trade Association, Professional Body, Chartered Institute, Regulatory Body or Trade Union would be advantageous.

Experience of writing strong copy in a variety of styles and excellent verbal communication skills are essential.

You will have a positive approach to selling stories to the media.

Confidence, a good telephone manner and determination are key characteristics, as is an understanding of what makes journalists tick.

A thorough knowledge and understanding of the workings of the media is required.
