The UK operations are entirely based in, Kidderminster, where we have a vacancy for a Production Engineer to develop and improve production processes.
The production engineering team is responsible for developing and improving the production processes for all motor components.
The processes themselves are used for low volume, batch production and involve a wide range of techniques for assembling metallic, plastic and polymeric components using adhesively bonded or mechanical joints. Many of the components are formed on site especially those involving energetic materials. Others are formed off site by our suppliers.
The team works very closely with the design team and the operations department to ensure that the production processes are fit for purpose. The team is also supported by the materials team which has specialists in all the materials concerned.
Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include the following:
_ Adapting existing production processes to new rocket motors.
_ Developing and commissioning new production processes.
_ Pilot manufacture of prototypes and initial production batches.
_ Creating and maintaining process documentation, e.g. manufacturing methods.
_ Monitoring process cost, wastage and capability.
_ Identifying and implementing process improvements, e.g. cost savings.
_ Investigating and resolving production problems.
_ Generating capital expenditure cases for new equipment.
Requirements
Candidates should have a formal qualification (HNC, HND or degree) in an engineering discipline and should also have at least five years industrial experience.
Relevant knowledge and experience includes the following:
_ Production processes for.
o Forming, machining and treatment of metallic components
o Moulding, extrusion and spraying of polymeric components
o Joining and especially adhesive bonding
o Assembly and inspection
_ Production process control and improvement techniques, e.g. SPC.
_ Production planning techniques, e.g. MRP II.
_ Engineering drawings, e.g. tolerancing.
_ Safe working practices, e.g. Risk Assessment.
In addition, the following general attributes are required:
_ Interest and aptitude in all aspects of engineering.
_ Ability to communicate and work effectively with technical specialists.
_ Good interpersonal and team working skills.
_ Working to customer requirements and timescales.
_ Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
THE CONDITIONS:
Holidays: 25 + statutory days per annum pro-rata
Hours of Work: 37 hour working week
Monday - Thursday 08.00 - 16.30
(30 minutes lunch daily 12.00 - 12.30)
Friday 08.00 - 13.00 (no lunch)
