Head of Design
Description of the role:
The Mid-weight Designer will report to the Head of Design and work alongside the project and account teams. They are responsible for developing original design concepts, executing designs based on established style guidelines, developing detailed design specs for print production, developing HTML pages, and overseeing junior design team members. They may occasionally be asked to participate in visual design presentations to clients.
What is required:
• 3-4 years design experience preferably in a marketing agency
• Minimum 2 years experience with Photoshop and Illustrator and an intimate knowledge of both; motion graphic skills would also be of benefit but this is not the primary focus of the role
• Strong knowledge of HTML & CSS
• Minimum 2 years experience of working with open-source content management systems -
• Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla
• Java/JQuery/PHP and AS3 skills would also be of benefit
Must also have:
• Ability to develop intuitive and engaging site/newsletter layout and functionality, user interfaces, and navigation
• To demonstrate strong conceptual thinking
• Ability to work with Head of Design and also mentor Junior Designers
• Strong communication skills are key as this role works with various different teams within the agency and McDonald Butler clients
• A committed attitude and approach to work

• To promote design work and the design department at McDonald Butler
• Support the McDonald Butler brand through occasional internal design projects
• Produce work of the highest quality to any given brief or guideline
• Interpret the Design brief and follow the Design process
• Demonstrate creativity, passion, commitment
• Clearly show how their design impacts the project as a whole
• Be proactive in pushing the final solution beyond the initial brief
• Work and communicate effectively within a multi-disciplined team and clients
• Be able to take on board constructive criticism & feedback in a professional manner
