Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer

• To provide the necessary design and draughting input into the department.
• To provide accurate bills of material on the Pointman system.
• To produce clear, concise and accurate drawings within specifications, timescale & budget.
• To ensure all purchased parts are entered onto the Pointman system in such a way that the purchasing department can purchase all parts accurately and economically within set timescales.
• To liaise with Engineers when design requirements are outside the established procedures and techniques.
• To liaise with Production engineering/Works/Buyers/Suppliers where appropriate to ensure we have a cost effective design.
• Investigate ways to improve the productivity of the CAD systems, including undergoing training as appropriate.
• To provide drawing/certificate checking input into the department as and when required
• To work with others in the company to reduce costs.
• To work within project teams to simplify manufacturing processes.
• Provide input for departmental plans, reports and budgets.

Skills, Experience & Knowledge:

• Creativity and innovation.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to select functional and economic materials.
• Understanding of a range of technologies and engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of computer-aided design and rapid prototyping.
• Knowledge of computer-assisted design software.
• Ability to liaise effectively with colleagues in many other departments.
• Communicate well verbally, diagrammatically and in writing.
• Knowledge of the Microsoft Office software suite.

Qualifications:
• BTEC level 3, ONC/HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
