First2Find Recruitment (specialists in legal recruitment) working on behalf of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council have a vacancy for a Legal Officer - Definitive Map Modification. The Legal Officer is responsible to the Council as ultimate client and to the Borough Secretary as Solicitor to the Council for the due performance of the responsibilities of the post.The successful applicant will undertake legal work on behalf of the Council dealing solely with matters related to the Definitive Map and Statement in particular Definitive Map Modification Orders.

In particular, they will be expected to undertake the following:

Forming a sound legal judgement as to whether to accept or reject the application based on the collated evidence

Checking the case reports before submission to Cabinet and Committee.

To be responsible for discussions with the Planning Inspectorate on any cases with objections.

To be responsible for the legal and administrative processes preparing for and during any Public Inquiry including advocacy.

Provide legal support and advice to the Public Rights of Way Team that is based on an understanding of the business of the Service and the policies of the Council. 4. Generally undertaking legal research where this is necessary for the performance of the job.

Regularly keeping up to date with new legal developments and ensuring that such developments are appropriately applied to undertaking the job.
