Our client is an International Freight Forwarder, specialising predominantly in deep-sea markets, within the Far East, USA as their main areas. Forming partnerships to freight manage their client's global business leaving the client free to concentrate on its own core business. Their management team is totally focused on achieving higher levels of service both internally and externally. They now have an excellent opportunity for a Graduate to join the team within their IT department for a Junior Software programmer.

With a base close to NEC in Birmingham your role will be to primarily undertake development, testing and maintenance of in house software systems, supporting and maintaining a variety of web based, reporting and Windows based products for use by its own business and its partners / customers and suppliers.

Responsibilities

As a Junior Programmer you will:

Develop and deliver software modules which are fit for purpose and of high quality. Deliver deployable solutions for implementation, fully documented and tested.

Ensure that you fully understand and apply all agreed standards or techniques specified or required by the project or system. On occasion you will participate in formal code reviews in order to evaluate technical content and quality.

Continually seek to identify any weaknesses or opportunities for improvement within our systems. Matters should be raised via your line manager or appropriate technical review group for consideration and adoption across the department.

Produce user documentation for any new applications developed, and where enhancements are made to existing applications to ensure any relevant documentation is kept up-to-date.

Participate in and contribute to Team Meetings and to participate in Performance Reviews.

The programmer must have experience with:

Visual Basic .NET (Winforms) and ASP.NET Framework 3.5 or greater

Front end web based development, DOM, HTML 5, JavaScript, CSS

SQL Databases

Windows Server 2008 or above

Visual Studio 2010

A Level / NVQ Level 4 or equivalent education essential.

Computer Sciences / Software Engineering degree highly desirable.

Experience with the following is desirable but not essential

SQL Server 2012, SSIS, SSRS

Visual Studio 2012

Networking / LANS / WANS and TCP/IP protocol

Microsoft Office

DevExpress ASPX Controls

The programmer should also possess the following traits

Have a proven ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise.

Have a professional, flexible and personable approach to user / customer relations.

Effectively communicate technical aspects to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Have a good understanding of IT so you can quickly learn about new IT packages and techniques

Have good communications skills, written, telephone and personal.

Enjoy problem solving

Be able to work as an individual and as part of a team and demonstrate good attention to detail
