Yell are looking for an experienced Java Developer to join the Labs team based in our Central London office.
Yell Labs purpose is to explore the potential of new ideas, technologies and market innovations. Yell labs uses technology to create exciting new products and solutions which deliver the leads our customers need.
Exampled of mobile Apps that Yell Labs have developed include Yell online iPad/iPhone App, Yell for Bikes iPhone App, Yell Augmented Reality iPhone App.
Role Purpose:
The successful candidate will be passionate about technology, have exceptional technical and problem solving skills, with a positive, creative and results driven attitude. An aptitude and willingness to contribute to and learn from a technically superb team within a creative labs environment is also key. Ideal candidates will have the ability to innovate and ideate as well as work across with a wide range of technologies, including those unfamiliar to them.
Role Responsibilities
Collaborating with other team members to design and develop testable software to high leading edge standards.
Liase with other internal teams e.g. Design, Support, QA and A&I teams, to ensure awareness of approach, enabling compatibility and co-ordination of effort?
Work autonomously and maintain awareness and understanding of broader business goals as applicable to personal and project objectives.
Conduct and participate in reviews of own and others work to ensure the sharing of best technical practice
Stay abreast and be an advocate within the team of latest technologies and best practice.
Requirements capture, analysis and elaboration in specified functional areas
Experience & Personal Attributes Required:
A love of technology and experimentation.
Excellent technical and problem solving skills,
Desire to innovate, learn new skills and gain knowledge.
Ability to back decisions with sound rationale
A strong sense of good practice with respect to development techniques
A capacity to review and be reviewed constructively
Pragmatic, self motivating, adaptable and flexible in approach
Expertise:
Mastery of Core Java
Track record in design and delivery of scalable, testable, highly available server side applications
Strong experience in service oriented architectures.
Excellence in at least one of EE6 / Spring / Play Framework.
Good understanding of software architecture; understanding component and application breakdown and interaction. Ideally a good understanding of the interplay of software architecture with infrastructural architecture
Strong relational database skills, both native and ORM (JPA / Hibernate).
Good familiarity with messaging and caching technologies
Experience of source code control, continuous integration, build systems etc.
Application of Agile methodologies (SCRUM / Test Driven Development, CI) to improve efficiency and quality in software delivery
Nice to have but not essential:
Scala / other functional language familiarity
Understanding of NoSQL, Document Store, Graph DB concepts.
Hadoop / map reduce – other big data approaches
Knowledge / experience of development for mobile platforms (Iphone, Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Symbian, J2ME) and front end technologies (HTML/CSS/AJAX).
